"Grandpa's sleep"/"Vanaisa tukastused" (2008)
print on canvas, 120x147 cm

"Grandpa's sleep" is a homage to my grandfather who passed away in 2007. I was away traveling back then and could not go to the funeral. When I returned home, all his belongings were there, but he himself was gone. By his chair I found his crosswords, many of these unsolved. On the crosswords I discovered weird pen stripes. I realized the stripes were drawn unconsciously by my dozing grandpa's hand. I used the crosswords to create one huge unsolvable puzzle. 18 red circles mark the 18 times he fell asleep trying to solve crossword puzzles.
